Q: How are osteotomy guides made with the Safegide Dental Implant Guide Kit similar to osteotomy guides made using cone beam tomography?

A:  Safegide allows the dentist to easily and quickly "record" or "pick-up" the anatomical information that may only be visible at the time of extraction like bone height, intact bony walls, gingival thickness, socket angulation and socket depth. The socket is then used as a scaffold to form the guide and determine the desired direction of the implant. This information is not available after the socket closes.

Safegide knows that implants should be done using CT Scans, however not necessarily all the time. Safegide kits do not replace guides made using a CT scan but substantially reduce the necessity of using a CT scan for every implant case.

Q: What are the benefits of Safegides over CT scan guides?

A: The number one and two benefits I say for Safegide are the convenience and simplicity. Safegides are completed in minutes at the exodontia appointment compared to weeks with the CT scan guides. This is besides avoiding all the negatives of a CBCT scan, which include the expense and the radiation to the brain. So if I am treating a patient who has a busy schedule but wants an implant as soon as possible I can create a perfect osteotomy guide in a very short time while the patient is at the office. And a lot of implant cases would normally take multiple visits at multiple locations, and end up with an osteotomy guide that is still not ideal.

Q: Can Safegide be used on healed sites?

A: Yes but you have to make it on a study model. However they work best if fabricated when the tooth has just been extracted and you can form the guide in the socket.  

Q: What makes Safegides as predictable as CT scan guides.

A: The guides are made when you can see into the socket and confirm accuracy during fabrication.  

The Safegide insert used to fabricate a guide mimics the implant. The future position of an implant can be verified. If no ideal it can be corrected during fabrication.. 

Q: How does the cost of a Safegide compare to that made with a CT scan guide?

A: Typically the costs of a completed Safegide guide is less than $25, does not require specialized equipment and takes a few minutes.  The alternative includes the costs of a CT Scanner, software, requires a dental lab and can take a few weeks.

Time is money. You can use this time saved while making this guide doing other procedures - which means that it costs much less and allows you to earn more.
